Q1: Describe regions where population is clustered and where it is sparse. Also, please describe the three types of density.Clustered Regions and Sparse RegionsThe reason the population is clustered in certain areas is because of fertile soil, temperate climate, and low lying areas. There are 4 major clustered population areas. The first region is East Asia. East Asia contains about one-fourth of the world's population. This region borders the Pacific Ocean and the countries in this region are eastern China, the islands of Japan, the Korean Peninsula , and the island of Taiwan. The Chinese population is mainly clustered near the Pacific coast and has fertile soils for farming. Much of China's interior contains mountains and deserts. More than one-half of the population live in rural areas and work as farmers there. The second region is South Asia. South Asian contains about one-fourth of the world's population. South Asia includes India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The population is heavily concentrated near the Arabian Sea to the west and the Bay of Bengal. Many people here live in rural areas and farm. The third region is Europe. Europe has 4 dozen countries. The highest populated concentration are near the major rivers and coalfields of Germany and Belgium as well as the major capitals, like London and Paris. The fourth region is Southeast Asia. There are around 600,000 million people in Southeast Asia. Most of the people live in a series of islands between India and the Pacific oceans. Many people here also live in rural areas and farm. There are also certain areas that humans avoid living in. They are dry lands, wetlands, cold lands, and highlands. Dry lands are too dry for farming and usually lack water. Some people may live there for the natural resources or may raise animals who can withstand the heat like camels. Wetlands get a lot of precipitation and are located near the equator. The rain and heat depletes the soil making it very difficult to grow produce there. Cold lands are located mainly in the north and south poles. The cold environment makes it impossible to to plant crops, but some animals can survive the extremes colds. High lands are mainly steep and have some snow. There are some areas however, where agriculture is available.
Three Types Of DensityDensity is the number of people occupying an area of land. There are three types of density. They are arithmetic density, psychological density, and agricultural density. Arithmetic density is the total amount of objects in an area. In population geography it refers to the total number of people divided by the total land area. It allows geographers to compare the number of people trying to live in on a piece of land in different regions of the world. Psychological density is the number of people supported by a unit of arable land. Land supported by agriculture is called arable land. Agriculture density is the ratio of the number of farmers to the amount of arable land. Developed countries have lower cultural densities because technology and finances allow few farmer to produce for many people. Finding the agricultural density helps account for economic differences.
